School History

Sejarah berdirinya sekolah-sekolah Santa Maria di Pekanbaru diawali dengan berdirinya TK Santa Maria Pekanbaru pada tahun 1953. Pada saat itu TK Santa Maria didirikan di Batu Satu Jalan Raya Bangkinang yang saat ini menjadi Jalan Ahmad Yani- Pekanbaru. Berdirinya Taman Kanak-kanak ini adalah hasil dari semangat yang luar biasa dan tidak kenal lelah dari para Pastor (biarawan) Xaverian pada saat itu, yaitu: Pastor R.Danielli,S.X dan Pastor Nardello,S.X. Perkembangan sekolah TK begitu pesat karena di zaman itu belum banyak kompetitor.

Setelah berdirinya TK dan dengan perkembangan jumlah murid yang pesat, para Pastor mulai berpikir kemana para murid lulusan TK Santa Maria ini akan melanjutkan sekolahnya?. Akhirnya pada tahun 1956 berdirilah SD Santa Maria yang berlokasi di Jalan Raya Bangkinang itu juga.

Dengan metodologi pengajaran yang unik serta disiplin dari para guru yang tinggi, akhirnya banyak orang tua yang saat itu mempercayakan anak-anak mereka bersekolah di TK dan SD Santa Maria. Ini jelas menjadi bahan pertimbangan oleh Yayasan Prayoga perwakilan Riau Daratan untuk mengembangkan lagi hingga tingkat SMP. Akhirnya pada tahun 1961 berdirilah SMP Santa Maria Pekanbaru yang berlokasi di sebelah SD Santa Maria.

Nama sekolah Santa Maria sebagai sekolah yang memiliki disiplin yang tinggi semakin bersinar saat itu, namun belum ada SMA. Maka akhirnya di tahun 1975 dengan menumpang ruangan di bawah Gereja Santa Maria A Fatima, SMA Santa Maria pun berdiri. Tahun 1976 SMA Santa Maria resmi pindah ke gedung baru berlantai dua yang dirancang dan dibangun oleh Pastor Aldo La Ruffa, S.X di Jalan Ronggowarsito Pekanbaru.

Akhirnya melalui perjalanan waktu SMP Santa Maria pun dipindahkan di kompleks sekolah SMA Santa Maria di Jl.Ronggowarsito hingga saat ini. Lulusan demi lulusan telah dihasilkan, mereka melanjutkan sekolah, melanjutkan kuliah atau mungkin melanjutkan bisnis orang tua mereka.

Yang jelas para lulusan Sekolah Santa Maria ini pasti tidak akan lupa dengan nilai-nilai (values) yang ditanamkan pada saat mereka belajar di sekolah. Nilai-nilai Disiplin, Integritas, Tanggung jawab yang tidak akan pernah lekang oleh waktu dan ini menjadi Memori Indah untuk dibagikan ketika mereka berkumpul lagi bukan sebagai seorang siswa, namun sebagai seseorang yang telah menjadi manusia seutuhnya.

Saint Mary Fair

Few years ago, there’s Saint Mary Fair that held in my school, Saint Mary High School. In that event, there’s an English Debate Contest that held in XII IPS 4 class at the second floor of Saint Mary High School building. The English Debate Contest started at 03.00 PM till 05.30 PM for 4 days. Now, if you didn’t watch the contest, don’t be disappointed. I’ll describe the situation of the contest just for you.

In that XII IPS 4 class, around 03.00 PM just before the contest began had been crowded with so many people that interested with The English Debate Contest. There were about 50 chairs in that class with about 10 tables for the contestant and the jury. There were two white boards in front of the class with a clock between them. There were photos of our president and vice-president above the white boards and also the picture of Garuda Pancasila between the photos.

From this picture I took, you can see the juries sitting facing the white board. They are both female. First jury wore blue shirt with white polka dots and there were her black bag beside her. She has black short hair. Second jury wore white shirt and sat next to first jury. She has black long hair.

There were four presenters for this contest. They were watching the contest from the front corner at the class. 3 of the presenters are female and wore white, yellow and black shirt. 1 of them is male and wore the red shirt and was sitting at the teacher’s chair and also wore glasses.

The left group that was competing was Saint Mary School’s Team A. It consisted of 2 boys and 1 girl. They looked really serious when I took this picture, probably nervous I think. They wore our school uniform. The girl from the team has long hair. The girl sat at the right table. And the boy who sat at the left table wore glasses.

The right group that was competing was…. If I don’t mistaken was SMAN 8. And it consisted of 1 boy and 2 girls. The boy and the girl that sat at left and right wore their school uniform. The center girl wore black shirt. And they looked happy. I say this because they were smiling when I took this picture.
